Dr Cornel West is a United States philosopher, academic, activist, author and public intellectual.

Or, as he puts it, a blues man in the life of the mind, a jazz man in the world of ideas.

A civil rights activist, Dr West was recently arrested at the Ferguson, Missouri, protests over the police shooting of an unarmed black man -- one of several of late in the US.

He's now setting out on a lecture tour of Australia and he's told Ron Sutton about it.
