Could David Hicks have Guantanamo conviction withdrawn?

What implications are there for the case of Australian man David Hicks after US authorities withdrew a terror conviction against fellow Guantanamo Bay detainee Noor Uthman Muhammed?

A former Sudanese detainee at Guantanamo Bay convicted of providing material support for terrorism has had charges against him dropped and his conviction withdrawn.

Noor Uthman Muhammed had been given a 14-year prison sentence, but a US appeals court has ruled it was a legal error to try the offence before a military commission.

Australian David Hicks, who spent six years in Guantanamo Bay, was convicted of the same crime, also before a military commission.

His former lawyer Dan Mori told Kristina Kukolja the US authorities' decision could be an important development for Hicks and others serving sentences for what he says is apparently no longer a valid war crime.
