Australian paceman Nathan Coulter-Nile's career-best four-wicket haul has fired the Delhi Daredevils to a nine-wicket win, sending them up the Indian Premier League ladder.
Man of the match Coulter-Nile took 4-20, teaming up perfectly with veteran Zaheer Khan (2-17), to decimate George Bailey's Kings XI Punjab, who were able to set only a modest target of 119.
Delhi wasted no time chasing down the runs, with Mayank Agarwal (52 not out off 40) and Shreyas Iyer (54 off 40) putting on 106 runs for the opening wicket as the Daredevils won with 37 balls to spare to move into fourth spot near the halfway point of the tournament.
Bailey overcame a shoulder injury sustained in training during the week to score 18, while Australian teammate Shaun Marsh scored was trapped lbw to part-time spinner JP Duminy for five, while Glenn Maxwell was once again left out - and this time was joined by Mitchell Johnson on the sidelines.
"That wasn't our finest performance," Bailey said.
"I don't really know what to say.
"When we batted, it looked like a difficult surface. When they batted, it looked a good surface."
In the late match, Australian teammates Steve Smith (23 off 20) and Shane Watson (28 off 23) were unable to go on after making promising starts in Rajasthan Royals' unsuccessful runchase against Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai, led by a 27-ball 53 to Ambati Rayudu, posted 5-187, which they were able to defend after New Zealand left-armer Mitchell McClenaghan ripped through the Royals' middle order to seal a eight-run victory.
The 30-year-old McClenaghan (3-31) started his demolition job by enticing Smith to chase at a wider delivery, which was caught at third man.
He then had Sanju Samson, whose well-constructed 76 off 46 had swung the match in the Royals' favour, caught at long off, before dismissing Karun Nair with his next ball to be on a hattrick.
That didn't eventuate, but it was enough to derail the Royals' runchase and earn Mumbai their third win of the tournament.
