Counter-terrorism training in Sydney

Defence forces say they will try to minimise the disturbance to local residents during their upcoming week of counter terrorism training in NSW.

Defence forces have begun counter-terrorism training across Sydney and the Hunter Valley.

Black Hawk helicopters, watercraft and special purpose military vehicles will be moving through some parts of Sydney during the training, which runs from Saturday until Friday, the Department of Defence said.

Weapons will be carried by those participating in the training but nothing will be loaded with live ammunition.

"The activities are designed to provide a realistic test of Australian Defence Force skills and cooperation with supporting agencies in emergency response scenarios," Defence said in a statement.

Most of the training will be done outside business hours and Defence says it will "seek to minimise disturbances to local residents."
