Court case over elderly Vic woman's death

A man charged over a crash in Melbourne that killed an elderly woman is appearing before a committal hearing.

Witnesses saw a Ferrari weaving through traffic moments before a multi-car crash in Melbourne that killed an elderly woman, court documents say.

Suleiman Abdulrahim is charged with a string of offences including culpable driving causing death over the crash at Reservoir in June last year, which claimed the life of an 88-year-old woman.

The Brunswick man, 23, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court for a committal hearing on Monday.

A witness to the crash, Tony Wilkinson, said he was driving with his partner and son in a ute when he saw a grey car dodging in and out of traffic.

"I could hear the noise and whistling of its engine as it came towards us. It sounded like a (racing car) and I could see that it was a Ferrari," he said in a statement to police.

Mr Wilkinson said he saw the Ferrari cross to the wrong side of the road before it ploughed into the front of another car.

It spun around and hit the driver's side of his ute, Mr Wilkinson said.

"The wheels of the Ferrari weren't even on the ground when it hit us," he said.

Abdulrahim's committal hearing will continue on Tuesday.

He is on bail.
