Court shown footage of bloody death scene

A police officer's iPhone footage of the bloody scene where Rachelle Yeo was stabbed to death has been shown in a Sydney court.

Video footage of Rachelle Yeo's blood-streaked apartment taken by a police officer after she was stabbed to death has been shown in a Sydney court.

Paul Darren Mulvihill, 44, is accused of murdering the 31-year-old in her North Curl Curl home in Sydney's north in July 2012.

He has pleaded not guilty to Ms Yeo's murder, saying he acted in self defence after his former lover attacked him.

In the Supreme Court on Friday, the jury was shown graphic footage taken by a police officer on his iPhone of the bloody scene that met ambulance and police officers after they arrived at Ms Yeo's apartment.

Flecks of blood can be seen along a dark hallway, with a very large pool of blood in the entrance to the kitchen.

Patches of blood also stain the carpet in the lounge room and in one place are smeared along the bottom of the wall.

Outside, a balcony railing is also marked with red smears - with one matched as a bloodied print of Mulvihill's right palm with traces of Ms Yeo's DNA, the court heard.

Watching from the dock, Mulvihill remained expressionless as the graphic footage was shown.

He had struck up a romantic relationship with Ms Yeo while they were both working for Sanofi-Aventis pharmaceuticals, the court has heard.

The trial before Justice Elizabeth Fullerton continues.
