An elbow injury had given her some nervous moments, but West Coast Fever captain Courtney Bruce is dreaming about World Cup Netball gold after being named in Australia's squad.
Bruce missed three weeks of Super Netball action after hurting her elbow in a heavy fall during the round-one loss to Adelaide.
It meant the 25-year-old had just one full match to prove her World Cup credentials - last week's two-goal win over Collingwood.
Bruce's strong display in that game - plus her previous heroics for the Fever and Diamonds - were enough to earn her a maiden World Cup berth.
"To get the phone call and know that I was in - I was relieved, and I'm over the moon," Bruce said of being named in the 12-player squad.
"I've had a pretty up-and-down time over the past four weeks.
"It definitely comes into your mind (wondering about selection), knowing the Diamonds are picked on form.
"I really thought there were other defenders stepping up and playing some good netball.
"But I also had to trust that what I had done in the past would be enough."
Bruce was part of the Commonwealth Games team who were pipped by England last year for gold. She is desperate to walk away with the spoils this time around.
But for now, Bruce is focused on helping to lift the Fever to a second win in a row.
The Fever still sit 10 points adrift of fourth spot after their poor start to the season, but will fancy their chances against the last-placed Firebirds on Saturday night at the Queensland State Netball Centre.
The Firebirds have been ravaged this season by injuries and are yet to win a game.
Bruce said her elbow had healed well.
"It still has its moments of swelling after games, but it's totally fine," she said.
