The Perth policeman who allegedly tipped off his journalist girlfriend about the arrest of ex-AFL player Ben Cousins has returned to duty but still faces an uncertain future.
Daniel James Erik Jamieson, 29, pleaded not guilty in Perth Magistrates Court earlier this month to four counts of disclosing unauthorised information between March 12 and 18.
The constable allegedly looked up information about the disgraced footballer on a police computer and passed it on to his girlfriend, Seven Network reporter Monique Dirksz.
She then showed up at Fremantle Police Station in the early hours of March 12 after Cousins was arrested for allegedly leading police on a low-speed chase from Bicton to Mosman Park.
"Nobody else was around at the time and we thought that was suspicious," Acting Police Commissioner Steve Brown told 6PR last month after Jamieson was charged and stood down from duty pending an internal investigation.
On Tuesday, police confirmed Jamieson had returned to work.
"The officer was returned to normal duty today and loss of confidence proceedings will not be pursued," a spokeswoman said.
"An investigation is still being progressed into the conduct of the officer and that matter will be finalised in due course by the Assistant Commissioner for Professional Standards."
Jamieson is due back in court on July 14 for a trial allocation hearing.
The arrest was part of an internal investigation into some 300 accesses to information by 112 officers about Cousins and another troubled ex-AFL footballer, Daniel Kerr, over a few days.
Mr Brown said last month that about half of the accesses were expected to be deemed "professional curiosity".
He described Jamieson's offence as very serious.
