Covers off for Shield match at Bellerive

Play on day one of the Sheffield Shield match between Tasmania and Victoria could get under way on Wednesday afternoon.

The covers are off at Bellerive, with play on day one of the Sheffield Shield match between Tasmania and Victoria a possibility on Wednesday afternoon.

The tea break has officially been taken and the umpires will inspect the ground at 3pm (AEDT).

Persistent rain has prevented play and more is forecast for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday.

National chairman of selectors John Inverarity is at the ground to watch Ashes squad members George Bailey, James Faulkner and Chris Rogers tune up for the Test series against England beginning next week.

Shield champions Tasmania are looking to build on their unbeaten start to the Shield season, while the Bushrangers are looking for their first win.
