Cowboys shoplifter free to face NFL Giants

Dallas Cowboys reserve running back Joseph Randle has avoided suspension for shoplifting and is free to face the New York Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys have fined reserve running back Joseph Randle after his shoplifting arrest but will not suspend him from Sunday's NFL game against the New York Giants.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said on Wednesday Randle was fined but not suspended after being apprehended by police Monday night following his departure from a department store with a bottle of men's cologne and a package of underwear that he had not purchased.

"The actions we're going to take are to fine him significantly and move forward," Garrett said.

"He took full responsibility and he made a really poor decision. He recognises this."

Randle, who was charged with misdemeanor theft and released on bond on Tuesday, will pay about $US29,000 ($A31,000) from his base salary of $US450,000 ($A486,000) - or about one week's game paycheck, USA Today reported.

"There were a lot of circumstances that were surrounding the situation but there are no excuses, no explanations for this," Garrett said.

"He made a poor decision. As poor a decision as he has ever made in his life. There are consequences to that. We made that abundantly clear."

A day before the incident, Randle had run five times for 52 yards to help the Cowboys improve to 5-1 with a victory over defending Super Bowl champion Seattle.
