Cox could return for Anzac Day AFL clash

Texan Mason Cox had a memorable debut last season, kicking the first goal of the Anzac Day blockbuster, and could be back in action for this year's instalment.

A year after his stunning AFL debut, Collingwood ruck-forward Mason Cox could return to the team for the Anzac Day blockbuster against Essendon.

The Texan has been out of the side since round one, but coach Nathan Buckley said Cox could return to back up key forward Darcy Moore.

The Magpies are struggling in attack and while Buckley is happy with Moore's effort, the side have managed just win this season from four matches.

"One thing we haven't been able to do, when our ability to move the ball and shift the defence fails, and we need to move the ball down the line ... we just haven't been able to get as much of an aerial presence as we would have liked," Buckley said.

"So Mason is definitely in that mix, to come and support Darcy with that.

"Mason's aerial ability is something we'll look to and he's a very real chance to come in on Tuesday."

Cox had a memorable debut on Anzac Day a year ago, kicking the first goal of the match as the Magpies thumped Essendon by 69 points in front of his family, who travelled from the United States to watch him play.

Daniel Wells is also set to make his Collingwood debut with teams set to be named on Saturday.

Collingwood boast a 13-8 record in the Anzac Day clashes against Essendon, along with the memorable 1995 draw, and have won six of the past seven.

Buckley has been involved in the Anzac Day games for more than two decades as a player and a coach.

"It's a huge occasion and we're very fortunate to have the opportunity to represent the AFL on that day, on the 'G," he said.

"When the boys are there, they'll know about it."
