Developers will have to reveal a property's past, dump rent-to-buy arrangements and comply with stronger off-the-plan protections under new laws introduced into Victorian parliament.
The Sale of Land Amendment Bill was introduced into parliament on Tuesday and will restrict the use of sunset clauses so that off-the-plan contracts cannot be terminated by a vendor without written consent of the purchaser or Supreme Court order.
The bill will also ban public auctions before 1pm on Anzac Day and increase penalties for concealing a property's history such as drug labs or homicide.
