Cracking champagne open with a sword in NY

New York bar owner is giving customers the chance to learn how to master breaking open a bottle of champagne with a sword.

Have you ever felt like breaking open a bottle of champagne with a sword? One New York bar owner is giving customers the chance to learn how to master this unconventional method.

Melanie Lemeux, owner of The Baroness, trains her pupils in how to quickly slide a sword's blade along a champagne bottle's neck and then crack it open.

"That felt so ... triumphant," one customer was quoted as saying an article in the New York Times.

The sabre bottle opening course costs $US60 ($A67.14).
