Creek hopes to dazzle in NBA summer league

Australia's Mitch Creek is hoping to impress in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League and had a strong start for Dallas Mavericks in their win over Golden State.

Australian NBA hopeful Mitch Creek is hoping what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas.

The former NBL star is trying to impress in the Las Vegas Summer League and was in the starting line up for Dallas Mavericks in their 91-71 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Creek scored 13 points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes and said the competition was all about being in front of the right people at the right time.

"Every single game you've got the head coaches, like Steve Kerr, all these huge names sitting courtside, and you've got all the NBA players watching as well, and agents from all around the world," he told SEN radio on Wednesday.

"The more you play and the better you play the more attention you get.

"Do the right thing and you never know what can happen."

Creek says he's focused on being an intangibles player but still found it surreal to put himself out there.

"My role is pretty simple, it's to defend, rebound and run and attack as much as possible when I get the chance," he said.

"You're shooting around and you're warming up and trying to focus on the game and you've got NBA superstars sitting literally a metre from you," he said.
