Many residents of Crimea have been celebrating the first anniversary this week of Russia's annexation of the Ukrainian territory.

Russia's parliament approved the annexation on March 21 last year after Russian forces took control of the Crimean peninsula, which is home to Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

It came after Crimean residents backed joining the Russian Federation in a referendum.

France 24 correspondent Julia Lyubova has been visiting towns across the Crimean peninsula on the first anniversary of the annexation.

She has told Olga Klepova from SBS Radio's Russian program, while there has been strong public support for the move towards annexation, it has not been without its challenges.
