Croatia has officially become the 28th member state of the European Union, but not everyone in Australia's Croatian community is celebrating.

Croatia has officially become the 28th member state of the European Union.

 

The former Yugoslav nation is the first new member of the EU since Bulgaria and Romania joined in 2007.

 

While the accession has taken a decade of negotiations and concessions, not everyone is celebrating.

 

Some within the Croatian community in Australia say there are still many barriers the country needs to overcome before membership of the EU is welcomed.
