Wildlife officers are heading back to a Port Douglas golf course to catch an elusive croc that bit a man in his 70s.

The juvenile croc clamped down on local John Lahiff after he went to retrieve his ball on the 11th hole of the Palmer Sea Reef golf course, owned by federal MP Clive Palmer, on Monday.

Paramedics attended the club that afternoon and he was taken to Mossman District Hospital with lacerations to his lower leg.

He's now in a stable condition in Cairns Hospital but his reptilian opponent hasn't budged.

An attempt to catch it on Monday night failed, a Department of Environment and Heritage Protection spokesman said.

Five wildlife officers will try to nab the 1.2-metre beast again on Tuesday evening.

Once captured, it will be taken to a registered crocodile park or zoo.

The course had seven or eight crocodile residents that kept to themselves if left alone, course manager Ben Wood told AAP.

"They are very dormant," he said.

"The only time they come out of the water is to warm themselves up."

The course had signs at each hole in three languages warning players that crocs could be nearby.

Mr Lahiff himself has admitted he was complacent about the course's cohabitants.

"I should have realised to be a bit more aware of it, of crocs being in there ... but I just took it for granted," he told the ABC.

Meanwhile, Mr Palmer took to Twitter to wish him a speedy recovery.

"Crocodile has been removed from all menus at Palmer properties following today's incident with a member of our Port Douglas Golf Course," he wrote.
