Crosgrove, Voges hit County tons

Mark Cosgrove and Adam Voges have each hit centuries on the opening day of their County cricket matches in England.

Axed from South Australia's Sheffield Shield squad, Mark Cosgrove has hit his second century of the English County season.

Cosgrove was the saviour for Leicestershire on the opening day of their second division County clash with Kent, top-scoring with 119 from 238 balls to steer his side away from the precarious position of 3-19.

It was his third successive century against Kent after he scored 122 against them last month and also hit 113 against them last May.

The two-time Australian ODI representative partnered with Mark Pettini for a 218-run fourth wicket partnership, his century including 17 boundaries in a typically measured knock.

The 31-year-old was let go by South Australia after last summer's Sheffield Shield campaign, when he did not reach triple figures and failed to pass 50 in his last 12 innings.

However he has rebounded to average 50.50 for Leicestershire, after he also hit 80 against Sussex earlier this month.

Meanwhile Adam Voges continued his run-scoring streak, finishing the opening day of Middlesex's top-flight battle with Hampshire at Northwood unbeaten on 128.

Voges' side went to stumps at 3-342, after the 36-year-old partnered with local Dawid Malan (147) for a 279-run third wicket partnership.

With the exception of three successive boundaries which took him past the century mark, the Australian was patient, spending more than four hours at the crease and hitting just 13 boundaries in his 349 balls.

The century was Voges' first of the County season, however it has lifted his average to 71.20 after he had previously hit two scores of 50-plus.
