From the distance they're foreboding - giants of our seas.

Up close, they're modern day marvesl towering over the shore.

On Saturday members of the public got their chance to get on deck, a rare opportunity sold out well in advance.

50,000 people bought tickets to see one British missile destroyer, the UK's newest and most technologically advanced, which squeezed through the Panama canal on the journey.

And from the departing Prince Harry, the royal seal of approval for a job well done.

"It's like a second home and the next time I come back it'll be a struggle to get rid of me I'm sure", Harry told reporters.
