Adeaide coach Don Pyje is desperate to sign a ruckman who is taking the AFL storm - but it's not Brodie Grundy.
The Crows have been linked with pitching a multi-million dollar for Collingwood ruckman Grundy, who becomes a free agent at the end of the next season.
Pyke deflects any possible Crows interest in the Magpie star as "out there in the ether".
But he's super-keen to get the signature of Adelaide's emerging ruck Reilly O'Brien for next season and beyond.
O'Brien is averaging 35 hitouts a game since replacing injured colleague Sam Jacobs in what is the 23-year-old's first extended crack the elite level.
"We want to re-contract him and that is part of a process we're going through at the moment," Pyke told reporters on Wednesday.
Pyke said any Crows interest in Adelaide-born Grundy was speculation.
"In terms of what happens in the future, obviously list management looks after all that," he said.
"I'm not going to engage in the conversation about who might be available.
"My view has always been pretty simplistic: If someone is interested (in switching clubs) and they're a good player, every club is going to be interested, that is just reality.
"But I think there's a time and a place to communicate regarding players and this is probably neither the time or the place."
Pyke said linking O'Brien's future to Grundy's was superfluous.
"Let's deal with the known knowns," he said.
"We have got a player (O'Brien) at the moment that is performing strongly that we have got four or five years of development in, that we want to keep at the footy club.
"That is the conversation at the moment.
"Everything else is just, I don't know, out there in the ether - may happen, may not."
