Melbourne Rebels prop Cruze Ah-Nau has backed up scoring two tries in their Super Rugby trial with a new contract.

Ah-Nau crossed for a double in Melbourne's 28-13 win over Queensland last weekend before inking a two-year deal to remain with the Rebels until the end of the 2017 season.

Head coach Tony McGahan said 24-year-old Ah-Nau continued to make progress after his Super Rugby debut last year and going on to make 11 appearances.

"Playing on either side of the front row was a challenging experience, however he handled the situation extremely well, all things considered," McGahan said.

"His continued development in training, and performance for the Melbourne Rising in the NRC, confirmed his rise in the squad and where he can end up going forward."

Ah-Nau's retention continues a spate of impressive re-signings with Wallaby Sean McMahon also committing last week until the end of 2017.

He said he didn't contemplate going elsewhere.

"I'm very excited and happy to stay another couple of years in Melbourne and be around the squad we have," Ah-Nau said.

"Melbourne is home now, and our plan was always to stay here."

The Rebels will play their final trial on Thursday night against the Highlanders at Harlequin Rugby Club.

It's the first time a Victorian club has hosted such a trial.

They will open their season on Friday February 13 in Christchurch against the Crusaders, who lost the Super Rugby final to the NSW Waratahs.
