The family of Brazilian student Roberto Curti, who was killed in a police pursuit two years ago, say they will complain to the Brazilian government about a court decision to clear all police officers involved of any criminal conviction.
Roberto Curti died early on March 18 in 2012, after a chase and violent struggle with police through central Sydney in which he was tasered, handcuffed, hit with capsicum spray and knelt on.
Following an inquest into his death and a lengthy local court hearing, Senior Constable Damian John Ralph is the only officer out of three to be found guilty of his assault.
He has been placed on a two-year good behaviour bond with no conviction recorded, following a court hearing in Sydney yesterday.
"The verdict was in another country. But what happened and who was killed was a Brazilian citizen. We need to see what we can do."
The three other police officers- Chin Aun Lim, Scott James Edmondson and Daniel David Barling - were found not guilty of assault.
Roberto Curti's uncle and legal guardian Joao Eduardo Laudisio has told SBS Radio's Portuguese program, his family has complained to the Brazilian government about the court ruling.
"Everybody became very disappointed with the verdict. We became very, very disappointed", he said.
"We are still discussing with the government to see what we can do at this moment. The verdict was in another country. But what happened and who was killed was a Brazilian citizen. We need to see what we can do," he said.
