The president of the International Cycling Union has urged Fernando Alonso to talk to the sport's governing body if the Formula One driver wants his cycling team to race in 2015.
The deadline has already passed for Alonso's prospective new team to apply for a WorldTour license to compete in cycling's top level next year.
"It's not too late for a team at the Pro Continental level for next year, but time is moving on and I think Mr Alonso and his advisers need to come to talk to us in UCI and we can help and advise them on their plans for the future," Brian Cookson said after the Giro d'Italia presentation in Milan on Monday.
Alonso announced last year that he would look to create his own team to race in 2015.
"It's certainly something I want to encourage," Cookson added. "I want to support Mr Alonso and anybody who wants to invest in our sport, and we'll give them all the cooperation we can."
Alonso announced at the end of last month that he had paired up with sport investment managers NOVO, a day before the October 1 deadline to submit at least 10 signed rider contracts in order to apply to become a UCI ProTeam.
