Czech tennis star has infectious disease

World No.5 tennis player Lucie Safarova is in a Czech hospital with an unspecified infectious disease and it's not known when she might recover.

French Open finalist Lucie Safarova has been hospitalised in the Czech Republic with an unspecified infectious disease, and it's not clear when she might recover.

Safarova posted a message with a photo on Wednesday from the hospital in Brno on Facebook: "It's been really hard month for me. Injury and now fighting bacteria infection in hospital!"

Safarova has already qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore in doubles with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, for winning the Australian and French opens, and stands a good chance to qualify in singles having reached her highest world ranking of No.5.

She also hopes to lead the Czechs in the Fed Cup final in November against Russia.
