Dale Steyn edges closer to Test comeback

Paceman Dale Steyn has continued his return to fitness for a SA Invitational XI in a three-day match against Zimbabwe as he prepares for a Test comeback.

Paceman Dale Steyn continued his return to fitness for a South Africa Invitational XI in a three-day tour match against Zimbabwe as he gears up for a Test comeback.

The 34-year-old, who has taken 417 wickets in 85 Tests for the Proteas, recently returned to action following more than a year on the sidelines with a shoulder problem.

Steyn bowled 12 wicketless overs on the opening day in Paarl, starting his first spell with 18 consecutive dot balls and conceding just 16 runs in total.

That put him in contention to be included in the Proteas' XI for the inaugural four day-night Test against Zimbabwe in Port Elizabeth which starts on Boxing Day.

After the Zimbabwe series the Proteas take on in-form Australia, who have already clinched the Ashes with two Tests remaining, where they hope the paceman will be back to his fiery best.
