Dallas Cowboys recall Aussie punter

Australia could have at least five players in the NFL this coming season and not just as punters.

The Dallas Cowboys are taking another punt on Geelong's Tom Hornsey.

The 26-year-old, who grew up playing Australian rules and went on to be named US college football's top punter for 2013 after starring with the University of Memphis, was signed, then cut, by the Cowboys last August on the eve of the 2014/15 NFL season.

Hornsey announced on Thursday the Cowboys have called him up again.

"Can't wait to get started," Hornsey announced in a tweet on Thursday.

Australia could have at least five players in the NFL for the 2015/16 season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed punter Brad Wing, Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jesse Williams is expected to return to the field after knee injuries kept him out the past two seasons, guard David Yankey is back with the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions confirmed on Wednesday the team is having discussions with NRL convert Jarryd Hayne.

Another Melbourne punter and free agent, Mat McBriar, who played with the Cowboys for eight seasons, is likely to be snapped up by an NFL team.
