Damaging winds forecast in WA

Damaging winds gusting to more than 125km/h in some areas are forecast in parts of WA on Sunday.

Damaging winds of up to 100km/h are set to hit Perth and the area from Bunbury to Narrogin overnight and into Sunday.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) issued a warning on Saturday for the bad weather, warning it could damage homes and make travel dangerous.

A strong cold front is forecast to move over the state's south west overnight and during Sunday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Damaging winds gusting up to 100km/h, and more than 125km/h in isolated areas, are likely and may damage homes and property.

Thunderstorms are also possible.

People southwest of a line stretching from Bunbury to Albany are also expected to see heavy rain that could cause flash flooding between 1am and 10am Sunday.

The DFES is urging residents to store away or weigh down loose objects around the home, ensure emergency kits are ready, vehicles are undercover and animals are in a safe area.

The conditions will affect people who live in or between Narrogin, Katanning, Mount Barker, Albany, Walpole, Augusta, Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury, Mandurah and the Perth metropolitan area.
