Damaging winds predicted for Victoria

A severe weather warning has been issued for much of Victoria, and damaging winds are predicted for much of the state.

A severe weather warning is in force for most of Victoria, and high winds are expected from Monday to Tuesday morning.

All districts except the Mallee and Northern Country are affected.

Winds of 50-60km/h, with gusts to 90km/h, are forecast in the South West and Central districts, including Warrnambool, Ballarat, Geelong and Melbourne, on Monday, strengthening during the day to 55-75km/h, with peak gusts of 100km/h mainly over elevated areas.

The winds will extend at similar strengths to the North Central region and elevated parts of the North East, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland districts on Monday night, and West Alpine areas can expect winds of 70-90km/h, with peak gusts of 130km/h by Tuesday morning.

The State Emergency Service has advised people to secure or store loose items around the house and stay clear of fallen powerlines.
