Leigh Tudor talks about Chad Wingard's ability to torch an AFL opposition with five minutes of brilliance.

The two-time All Australian will make his Hawthorn debut in the clash against North Melbourne on Sunday at the MCG.

Tudor's observation has extra relevance for the Kangaroos, given what happened in the third quarter of last weekend's loss to Brisbane.

Lions ruck-forward Oscar McInerney had an outstanding cameo, taking three marks and kicking two goals in a five-minute patch that helped turn the game.

"It's what we have to get better at - teams that kick a couple in a row, they just can't get the next one," said Tudor, the North forward coach.

"He (Wingard) is one of those players that you always must have your eye on, because his five-minute patch can really hurt you."

Shortly after North lost, Hawthorn also suffered from momentum shifts when they went down to the Western Bulldogs last Sunday.

Hawks' coach Alastair Clarkson noted that given how the two teams played last Sunday, it would be a nightmare to scout them.

"Last week we fixed up a lot of things, but it just wasn't good enough to get the job done," Tudor said.

"Brisbane probably got us on the turnover a little too much.

"It's still very much a work in progress, with a few new players.

"The effort was there, that was the pleasing thing ... it was just some technical, game-structure things that we're still not quite there with."

As for scouting Hawthorn, Tudor said there are some givens.

"Clarko's teams are always tough, they're always well-drilled, they know what they want to do," he said.

"They're always a really dangerous side."

The Kangaroos forward coach was pleased with the new combination of Ben Brown and Tom Campbell in attack last Sunday.

Apart from the extra support for Brown, Campbell can also go into the ruck to relieve Todd Goldstein.

"Just for the team structure, it worked a lot better for us last week," Tudor said.

Recruit Aaron Hall also shone in the first half, before the Lions sat on him and quelled his damaging outside run.

"It's great for him that teams identify him as a dangerous player," Tudor said.

'In the first half, he was probably our most energetic player.

"There are things we can do with positioning and that sort of stuff to help him.".

Apart from Wingard's inclusion, Dave Mirra was also recalled as Hawthorn lost Shaun Burgoyne and Liam Shiels to hamstring injuries.

North recalled Trent Dumont for Marley Williams (ankle).
