Australian young gun Dante Exum tore his ACL while on Boomers duty against Slovenia, his NBA team the Utah Jazz have confirmed.

Exum's left knee buckled as he drove towards the basket and collapsed to the floor during Australia's 66-51 win in Ljubljana on Tuesday.

The Jazz guard returned to Salt Lake City for further assessment, and the club has confirmed the worst injury update possible for the 20-year-old.

"After returning to Salt Lake City, (Exum) underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at University of Utah Health Cares Orthopaedic Center this morning," the club said in a statement.

"Following the examination, Jazz physicians Dr. Travis Maak and Dr. David Petron determined that Exum sustained a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee."

No timetable has been set for Exum's return and it's feared Exum will miss the entire coming NBA season.

It also means Exum will miss the Boomers' two-leg Oceania championships against New Zealand starting on August 15 in Melbourne, which double as a chance to directly qualify for the 2016 Olympics.
