The daughter of a Perth cyclist who was left with serious injuries after an apparent hit-and-run crash has cried while pleading for the driver to come forward.
Climate change expert Thomas Lyons, 66, is in a serious but stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital after being found unconscious next to his bike on The Esplanade in Mount Pleasant on Friday.
His daughter Liz wept as she appealed for anyone with information and the driver to come forward.
"It would mean the world," she told reporters on Sunday.
"We love our dad very much and the fact that he was just left on the side of the road is really heartbreaking, so any information would be most welcome."
Ms Lyons said it should never be a case of cyclists versus drivers on Australian roads and said she hoped the incident would trigger a wider conversation about road safety.
"We all deserve to feel safe on the roads," she said.
Ms Lyons said her father would often get up at 5.45am every morning and do a 10km bike ride.
She said the fact that the retired professor had received so many messages of support from past students and the general public was a testament to what a wonderful man he is.
Police have released vision of a car they believe may be of interest to the investigation and have called for anyone with information to contact them.
