An elbow injury has forced Spanish veteran David Ferrer out of Wimbledon.

Spanish player David Ferrer has withdrawn from Wimbledon because of an elbow injury.

Wimbledon says the eighth-seeded Ferrer will be replaced in the draw by lucky loser Luca Vanni of Italy.

Ferrer had been scheduled to face British wild-card entry James Ward in the first round.

Ferrer has never won a major title, but he reached the French Open final in 2013, losing to Rafael Nadal.
