David Jones has revamped its senior management team and created a new digital role to support the department stores' continued overhaul.
David Collins, an executive with the company's South African parent firm Woolworths, will replace Donna Player as merchandise boss.
Mr Collins brings "significant breadth of experience", with more than 25 years experience in senior merchandise and commercial retail roles, David Jones said on Wednesday.
The search for a digital boss to lead the expansion of David Jones' online strategy is "well advanced", the company said in a statement.
The digital boss will report to chief executive John Dixon.
"Our business is undergoing a significant transformation and the changes announced today will deliver a world-class leadership team," Mr Dixon said.
David Jones's financial performance has turned around since Woolworths took over in 2014, while staunch rival Myer continues to struggle with weak sales growth.
David Jones is planning to add another 10 stores to its current 40 over the next five years, including moving into Myer's Wollongong Central site in late 2017.
Pieter de Wet, currently general manager of food, has been appointed to the newly created role of group executive of food.
"This new executive position has been created to reflect the expansion of the David Jones food business and the strategic priority dedicated to the further development of this business," David Jones said.
David Robinson, group executive of marketing, financial services and customers insights, will also be leaving the company.
Chief operating officer David Thomas will manage the marketing operations during the interim period.
Ms Player and Mr Robinson have stepped down with immediate effect.
