David Warner has struck an unbeaten 72 in the Caribbean Premier League, his highest Twenty20 score since the Cape Town cheating scandal.

Warner, currently serving a 12-month ban from international cricket for his role in the ball-tampering saga, started his CPL stint with scores of nine, 11 and seven.

The former Australia vice-captain found form in his fourth outing for the St Lucia Stars, carrying his bat while top-scoring in a total of 2-212 against the Trinbago Knight Riders.

It was trumped by Darren Bravo's scarcely-believable unbeaten knock of 94 from 36 deliveries, which helped Trinbago prevail in the high-scoring thriller.

Bravo belted 10 sixes as the reigning champions reached the target with one ball remaining and five wickets in hand.

The Stars, who failed to register a single win in 2017, are still searching for their first victory of the current season.

Warner brought up his half-century by slapping a loose delivery from Sunil Narine over the covers and to the rope.

The hard-hitting opener beamed as he celebrated by pointing the bat and waving to his young family in the stands.

Warner is barred from representing Australia, NSW or any Big Bash League franchise as part of Cricket Australia's punishment.

Steve Smith, who was given the same ban by CA, is also taking part in the CPL.

The banned duo's next commitment after the CPL will be in Sydney, where the grade cricket season starts on September 22.
