Australian boxers will now feature on major American promotions on five successive weekends, with Daniel Dawson the latest local pugilist to land a big fight in the United States.
Western Australian Dawson will fight former WBA super welterweight champion Austin Trout on August 22 (August 23 AEST) at a venue to be announced in what is tipped to be an eliminator for the WBA title.
The fight extends the weekly stretch of significant bouts to be contested by Australians that starts on July 26 (July 27 AEST) when former world champion Daniel Geale's challenges WBA middleweight Super champion Gennady Golovkin at New York's famed Madison Square Garden.
Two first-time world title contenders, Blake Caparello and Jarrod Fletcher, get their time to shine over the two following weekends.
Victorian Caparello challenges Russia's WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 2 (August 3 AEST).
Queenslander Fletcher fights American Daniel Jacobs for the regular version of the WBA middleweight title in New York on August 9 (August 10 AEST).
Australia's Sakio Bika makes the second defence of his WBC super middleweight crown against American Anthony Dirrell in Carson, California, on August 16 (August 17 AEST).
Former multiple kickboxing world champion Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KOs) rounds off the Australian assault on American rings by tackling Trout (26-2, 14 KOs), who at one stage was linked to fighting Anthony Mundine.
"It is an honour to be representing Australian boxing at this time," Dawson said.
"My fellow Aussies and I are really making our mark in the sport of boxing on an international level."
Two of Dawson's three losses were to former world champions in Geale and ex-WBO light middleweight champion Serhiy Dzinziruk.
"To me this is an incredible opportunity to showcase my abilities at an elite level in my sport," Dawson said.
"I am aware of the challenge in Austin Trout and I believe my team and I are ready and focused on our winning game plan."
