WHAT THE COALITION WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

The government is backing multicultural communities to start new businesses and help elderly migrants access aged care

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT:

Only a Labor government would put a case to the Fair Work Commission for higher wages, and legislate to restore penalty rates

WHAT MADE NEWS:

* One Australian has been injured in the bomb blasts that ripped through three churches, three luxury hotels and a guesthouse in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

* Shorten has been left off campaign material in marginal seats because of his unpopularity with voters.

* Labor is awaiting documents from the Agriculture Department which could determine whether or not it commits to a royal commission into the Murray Darling river system management
