SNAPSHOT FROM DAY SEVEN AT THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN:

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Caroline Wozniacki - the world No.2 showcased her title credentials and her tweener ability with a between-the-legs shot, something rarely seen in women's tennis, in a 6-3 6-0 fourth-round win over Magdalena Rybarikova.

STAT OF THE DAY: World No.1 Rafael Nadal's charmed grand slam run continued with his 11th straight win at the majors against non-top-25-ranked opposition, this time a tough 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-3 victory over the 26th-ranked Diego Schwartzman.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We're getting old. We hit enough balls last night." - Lleyton Hewitt ruled out burning the midnight oil on the practice court with Sam Groth after the retiring veterans reached the quarter-finals of the men's doubles with a first-set walkover over Spaniards Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Pablo Andujar.

TURNING POINT: Within sight of her maiden grand slam quarter-final, rising Estonian Anett Kontaveit succumbed from a set and a double service break up in a rueful 4-6 6-4 8-6 loss to Spanish veteran Carla Suarez Navarro.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: Nadal will finally face a serious test against sixth-seeded Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic for a place in the semi-finals, while Belgian dark horse Elise Mertens extended her summer winning streak to eight matches to qualify for her maiden grand slam quarter-final in the wide-open women's event.
