PLAYER OF THE DAY: Justin Thomas. He started the final round at Quail Hollow two shots off the pace but stormed home with a three-under par 68 and an eight-under total of 276 to win his first major.
ROUND OF THE DAY: Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, world No.1 Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Australia's Marc Leishman all fired four-under 67s at the brutally tough Quail Hollow.

FLOP OF THE DAY: Hideki Matsuyama. With the chance to become Japan's first major winner, the world No.3 and winner of last week's WGC-Bridgestone slumped to a Sunday 72.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: With many of the big names including the world's top-four players fizzing out of the tournament, American young gun Thomas put his hand up to claim a maiden major victory.
