Day still world golf No.1, McIlroy to 3rd

Australia's Jason Day remains on top of the world golf rankings, while former No.1 Rory McIlroy has jumped from fifth to third.

Rory McIlroy has jumped from fifth to third on the world golf rankings after ending his 16-month title drought on the US PGA Tour, while Australia's Jason Day remains on top.

Former No.1 McIlroy of Northern Ireland has jumped from fifth to third by ending his 16-month title drought on the US PGA Tour at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Day tied for 15th at the event at TPC Boston, while countryman Adam Scott had a barnstorming final round to finish fourth to retain his world ranking at No.6.

American Dustin Johnson remains second, while fellow American Jordan Spieth drops one spot to No.4 and British Open winner Henrik Stenson of Sweden also falls one to No.5.

Among the big movers in the rankings, American Jimmy Walker jumps four spots to No.15 after landing his first major title in July at the PGA Championship.
