There's a sense of missed opportunity but after the 12 months James Courtney has endured the Supercars star will take his fourth-place at Winton on Saturday.
The woes of Walkinshaw Andretti United on the track have been combined with personal turmoil for Courtney following the breakdown of his marriage in the middle of last year.
It's the best finish for the 2010 Supercars champion in 2019.
His day could have been even better considering he was leading the race when Holden's David Reynolds bumped him wide on lap three but after all he's been through, Courtney wasn't dwelling on the negatives.
"All in all, we as a team should be happy with the result," Courtney told AAP.
"We haven't had the results that we should be and this should be where we're finishing.
"Still to have the things go wrong, which we did, and still be finishing fourth is a great result for the team."
The reversal in Courtney's on-track fortunes comes as his personal life also begins to settle down.
His divorce is settled and Courtney recently announced on social media his new partner Alexandra Elms is moving from Melbourne to the Gold Coast.
"It's been a pretty tough little period," the 38-year-old said.
"It's nice to have a little bit of a light on at the end of the tunnel."
