Day vows not to repeat Fed Ex Cup choke

World No.1 Jason Day has vowed he won't choke at the FedEx Cup after blowing a chance to win $US10 million in 2011.

Jason Day admits the last time he had a good shot at the FedEx Cup $US10million bonus he choked but the newly-crowned world No.1 has vowed it won't happen again this weekend.

Day sat on the penultimate hole of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in 2011 tied for the lead and in the $10million hot seat.

But his approach clipped a tree and fell into a bunker and he was unable to get up and down to fall out of the lead.

A less than stellar approach to the last left him with an eight-metre chance to get into a playoff but he three-putted for bogey, allowing Bill Haas to ultimately take all the glory.

Back then, Day admits he was still playing for money, instead of for wins, and it affected his nerves.

But this time around, fresh off four wins in six starts, his first major, and ascension to world No.1 he said he'll be better prepared.

"Of course it (the $10million) would pop into my brain (if in contention on Sunday)," Day said.

"It did in 2011 and I choked.

"It wasn't very much fun. But I think hopefully with the experience that I've had over the last four wins will prepare me better for that.

"Most of the time if you're a master of something, you failed more times than you've won. So, that's kind of the way I'm looking at it.

"And I've had a lot of failures, but they have been good learning experiences for me and I'm just trying to get better at it.

"It's a good position to be in. It's good pressure to have."

Despite reaching his two biggest career goals over the last seven weeks, Day could lose top spot to either Rory McIlroy or Jordan Spieth this week and it has him hungry to continue his stellar play.

"When I look at the list of wins I've had, to me personally, it feels low," Day said.

"With wins, I just I can't stop chasing them. I've got to try and get as many as I can before my golfing career is done."
