Jason Day is opening such a gap atop golf's world rankings that closest rival Jordan Spieth admits being concerned as well as motivated.
Day's win at the Players Championship over the weekend lifted the Australian to 13.38 average points - 2.48 clear of Spieth (10.90) with Rory McIlroy third on 8.93.
And after watching Day win seven of his last 17 events, former No.1 Spieth acknowledged Day was now clearly out on his own.
"He (day) is playing his game, he believes his game is better than anybody else's and he is on his game so it is better than everyone else's," said Spieth.
"He's separated himself and that bothers me and it motivates me.
"I could win the next two events and I'm not going to surpass him in the world rankings."
Day's victory on Sunday was the 10th PGA Tour victory of his career, however it has been his form this season that has been most impressive,
He is a collective 67 under par across the nine strokeplay events he's contested, while he has only missed the cut once - at the Farmers Insurance Open in February.
His victory in Florida over the weekend was also his second wire-to-wire win of the year.
"Watching the focus and the commitment that he had in each swing: that this ball is going exactly where I'm looking and this putts going in, just stalking it," Spieth said of Day.
"I know that feeling, I certainly didn't have it last week and I'm looking to get that back.
"And it is definitely some motivation there."
Day's current gap at the top is the highest he has accumulated since he first claimed the No.1 position last September, before taking it back in March 2016.
