Death cap mushrooms spotted in Canberra

Canberrans are being warned not to pick or eat wild mushrooms after the sighting of death cap varieties.

Death cap mushrooms have been spotted in the ACT prompting territory authorities to warn Canberrans not to eat or pick wild varieties.

Four people have died and there have been a number of poisonings associated with the lethal mushrooms in the territory since 2002.

"If you think you have eaten a death cap mushroom, seek urgent medical attention at a hospital emergency department and take any remaining mushroom to the hospital for identification," the ACT's chief health officer Dr Paul Kelly said on Wednesday.
