An Indian court has sentenced three men to death for the rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl in February 2012.

The court in the Indian capital had on Thursday had found the three men guilty of rape, murder, kidnapping and other charges.

According to the prosecution there were multiple injuries on the woman's head and other parts of her body, IANS news agency reported.

The mutilated and decomposed body was found in a village in Haryana state three days after the woman was kidnapped on her way home from her office in Gurgaon, a suburb of New Delhi.

The convicts repeatedly raped the girl for three days before she died, the prosecution said. Two of the convicts were brothers.

Police said the three men had assaulted the woman with a car jack and an earthenware pot.

The men had planned to attack the girl as she had rejected advances from one of them, police said during the trial.

The Indian government had promised to fast track trials in rape cases after the fatal December 2012 gang rape of a student in New Delhi that caused widespread outrage.
