At a time when governments around the world are trying to get debt under control, federal Labor believes if it's funding infrastructure it's a good thing.

"Debt for infrastructure is different from debt for just recurrent spending," Labor's infrastructure spokesman Anthony Albanese told Sky News on Sunday.

He said the government needs to keep construction activity going and the economy growing, but instead the Abbott government has cut infrastructure spending by $2 billion this year and next from what it originally promised.
