Decmil wins $147m Manus Island contract

Decmil group has won a $147 million contract for construction work on the expansion of the Manus Island detention centre.

Engineering and construction business Decmil Group has won a $147 million contract for work on the expansion of the Manus Island detention centre.

Under the contract, Decmil will construct new accommodation for asylum seekers and staff as well as a central dining facility and health and welfare facilities, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Decmil also won a $137 million contract for work on the detention centre in July.

Chief executive Scott Criddle said the contracts would help the company to diversify beyond its core focus on the oil and gas sector.

"The win strengthens our diversification strategy away from reliance on the resources and oil and gas industries," he said.

"Our proven delivery coupled with our strong relationship with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has enabled us to achieve this significant win."
