It's just a little out of the ordinary when you see a deer hanging out in your swimming pool while a dog circles around.

Residents living near Helensburgh said the deer was chased into the backyard by a dog before it leapt into the pool to get away.

"This dog came chasing after blood," an unnamed female resident told the local paper the Illawarra Mercury after the incident.

"If a dog is chasing a deer with that much viciousness, you worry about children and small dogs and elderly people."

Deers are common in the area which is just south of the Royal National Park on the outskirts of southern Sydney.
