Former winner Juan Martin Del Potro has withdrawn from the US Open as the Argentine's wrist surgery recovery drags on, tournament officials confirmed on Friday.

Del Potro, who beat Roger Federer for the 2009 New York title, has not played on the ATP for five months and underwent surgery in May.

He has since posted pictures of himself doing some light hitting in Florida.

The world No.11 is tentatively listed in the field for the Malaysian Open starting September 22.
