Former Richmond veteran Brett Deledio says his move to Greater Western Sydney has come after some trying times with the Tigers.

The 29-year-old says his love for the game was tested after a calf injury prematurely ended his AFL season and Richmond failed to make the finals.

Deledio said he chose the Giants over premiers the Western Bulldogs and Geelong because he believed a move away from Melbourne would mean a fresh start.
