Deliver social spending not tax cuts: poll

Despite a poll finding a majority of Australians back more spending on social services than tax cuts, Scott Morrison doubts people want to pay extra tax.

Treasurer Scott Morrison doubts Australians really want to pay more tax.

That's despite 55 per cent of 1200 people surveyed by the Australian National University saying they favour higher social services spending over tax cuts.

"For those who want to pay more taxes then we can allow for them to go down to the tax office and they can register for themselves to pay more taxes," Mr Morrison told ABC radio on Tuesday in response.
